When your Linux account is created we also create a home directory for you.  Use your home directory to store files related to your research and learning.  A few important notes about your home directory:
  • The path to your home directory is /home/<username> where <username> is your UMN Internet ID.
  • You can transfer files to and from your home directory using SMB or SFTP.
  • We ask that you limit the size of your home directory to 1TB (1,024GB) or less.  Use the command du -hs ~ to see the size of your home directory. The command may take several minutes to complete.
  • Your UMN Google Drive is a great option for storing files that you are not actively using.
