New to the U or our website? Here are a few of the most common questions to get you to the right resource.

I am faculty/staff for CLA and need a new computer, where do I start?
Your LATIS Consultant can help you identify the right model and initiate the process to get it purchased through University IT.

Are my files automatically backed up on my computer/devices? If not, how do I get that done?
All computers purchased after April 2015 have CrashPlan installed on them to ensure timely backup and easy retrieval of data. Any laptops purchased before that date, need to have CrashPlan installed. Contact your dept/unit's consultant to arrange the installation.

Where can I borrow a laptop?
The laptop loaner pool is available to all CLA faculty and staff. Find out how to reserve one and where to pick it up here.

My computer just crashed, where do I get help?
UMN's central OIT help desk is available to help with immediate needs at 612-301-4357 (1-HELP) or help@umn.edu. You can also stop by one of the three walk-in locations available on both banks and St. Paul.

Where do I find out what software programs are available to me as faculty/staff through the U?
The U offers comprehensive al carte software offerings through the central OIT. In addition, LATIS offers customizable software to support CLA faculty and staff in their work. To start a conversation to determine what will work best for your needs, contact your dept/unit's consultant.

I need to shorten a URL, does LATIS do that?
Yes, the team at LATIS created the Z link URL shortening program. It is easy to navigate, used throughout the University, and available to anyone with a x500 ID.
